I arrived in Shanghai Saturday evening after a long series of flights. I left Thursday morning and my first flight, from Denver to San Diego got delayed, causing me to miss my next flight. The airlines rescheduled me to fly to LA later that day, then to Tokyo and Shanghai the following day. Thankfully, they paid for a hotel room and two meals, though by the time I arrived in LA, not even halfway through my trip, I was exhausted. After a short night in a ritzy hotel room, I returned to the airport and spent the next eleven hours in the same seat, reading, playing chess on my Kindle and watching films.
A brief layover in Tokyo, and then to Shanghai.
I arrived and two people from Shane English School picked me up. We waited in a long line for a taxi, breathing in the car-fume-drenched air.

I spent the next day exploring up and down the wide, busy street and recovering from jet-lag. The city bustles with congested traffic, crowds of pedestrians and swarms of bicycles, rickshaws and mopeds/scooters careening down the bicycle lane. The smells of delicious cooking food in the many small restaurants and food stands that line the street pour out, mingling with the recurring smell of exhaust.
Yesterday, I went to the first day of training and met the principle and some of the teachers. Everyone's friendly and laid-back. We didn't even start until about 11, and went to lunch at about noon, then continued for a few hours, covering multiple intelligences and lesson plans.
